Privacy Policy

Overview

ShortlistED is an independent exploratory tool that helps families research and organize NYC school options. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. ShortlistED is not affiliated with or endorsed by the New York City Department of Education or NYC Public Schools.

Information you provide

• Account information: Your email address and password (stored securely) when you register.
• Home address: Used to estimate zoned and district priorities. You may enter a partial address or just your borough.
• Student academic information: Grades, academic level, and program interests you enter to refine admissions alignment.
• IEP and support information: Information about special education needs, such as SWD/IEP status or ASD supports, used to identify relevant programs.
• Family invitations: Email addresses of family members you invite to participate in a workspace.
• Notes and evaluations: Pros, cons, visit notes, and ratings you and your invited reviewers create. Private notes are visible only to their author.
• Payment information: Payments are processed by our payment provider (Base44 Payments, powered by Wix). We do not store your card details.

Student Mode

When Student Mode is enabled, the student can record their own ratings and impressions without seeing the full family view. Student contributions are stored within the workspace and are visible to the workspace owner and search manager.

How we use your information

• To generate and maintain your personalized school shortlist and admissions alignment.
• To enable collaboration among family members you invite to a workspace.
• To process payments and manage your subscription or trial access.
• To improve the accuracy and usefulness of the tool.

Data sharing

We do not sell your information. Workspace data (profiles, preferences, notes, and evaluations) is visible only to the workspace owner, the search manager, and invited members within that workspace. Payment data is handled by our payment provider. We may share information if required by law or to protect our rights or the rights of others.

Data retention

Your workspace data is retained while your subscription or trial is active and for a reasonable period afterward so you can renew without losing your shortlist. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time using the "Delete your account" link in the footer of any page while logged in, or by contacting us.

Your choices

• You can edit or delete workspace information at any time.
• You can revoke invitations and remove participants from your workspaces.

• You can choose not to enter sensitive information; the tool will work with whatever you provide.

Children's privacy

ShortlistED is designed for parents and guardians managing school searches. Students may participate through Student Mode within a parent-managed workspace. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children outside of a parent or guardian's workspace.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted transmission and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
